FROM THE ITALIAN KITCHEN OF PREGO; THE WESTIN GURGAON

I was recently invited at Prego, Westin Gurgaon’s signature Italian restaurant over lunch. I simply love indulging into Italian cuisine. It was a pleasure attending a very interesting Italian culinary class by Chef Salvatore Salis. He was cooking & giving a live demo-class in front of our eyes & explained us the ingredients used in all the dishes he prepared. Chef Salvatore Salis has been recently appointed as the Italian Chef and will be leading the culinary team. Born and raised in Sardinia, Italy. He grew up with the ‘Italian’ love for food. This encouraged him to pursue a career in culinary arts.

I had a small conversation with him. His experience goes a long way of over 10 years. He has worked in places such as The Romanos Resort, The Luxury Collection in Greece and other luxury hotels in Europe; Salvatore’s ease in the kitchen comes naturally. His experience & knowledge also adds to, hands-on operational training; Salvatore has explored various culinary operations including Menu development and design, quality control, outdoor catering and more. Furthermore, cost control for smooth and efficient running of the entire kitchen, food safety, health and hygiene and quality control, adds to his work experience kitty.

I found him extremely charming & well polished after conversing with him. Prior to joining The Westin Gurgaon,he served as the Chef de Cuisine at Gecko Lipe Resort, Koh Lipe Thailand. A few highlights of Chef Salvatore’s career include increasing the restaurant Tentazioni at Kempinski’s customer base massively.

We were served incredible Italian lunch after the class . The staff was very cordial & served everything with a smile. It started with a appetizing salad, yum bowl of soup followed by my favourite margarita thin crust pizza which had oodles of cheese & the thin crust which was just perfect; pasta was served which I relished till my last bite; an amazing beet root cocktail was prepared in front of us, giving us small detailing of the ingredients used.

Now, we were through with the main course. It was time to dig our tooth in something sweet. Here, comes a plate with delicious Tiramisu. I am always in love with coffee & anything made with coffee. How, can I not like it? I thought, we were done with our lovely lunch but I was wrong. Alas, here comes a brilliantly bedecked mud cake. It looked outstanding and it tasted much more delicious than it looked.

After lunch, we ordered & waited for our cup of green tea. Meanwhile, we thought of having some more fun. My dear readers, have you ever tried doing something funny & weird? Like wearing a bright & colourful wig? Yes, a couple of wigs were kept for decoration & we wore them. It was such a fun moment. All of us, adorned in bright shades of red, posed to get clicked!

Our host was lovely & ever charming- “Ms.Pooja”. We had a good chit chat session with her. She shared information about their special luncheon at “Lets Go Prego” & “Eest”.

If you are in love with Italian food, you can come & enjoy lunch at Prego, for a set Italian menu at Rs.1299++

You can also relish the flavors of Asian set menu at EEST, at an exclusive price of INR 1299++

Both restaurants serves this offer- Monday to Friday

The Westin bid us with a good bye, by giving us a certificate of attending this culinary class.

  1. I am a big fan of Italian food. The cocktails are pizza and pasta sound too tempting to me. It’s great to see a real Italian chef doing the honours. I hope to try this place myself someday soon.

  2. Replenish your appetite with authentic Italian pastas, pizzas, regional favorites and much more in the lively, colorful and aromatic atmosphere at Prego.
