Arnold & Son Expands DSTB 42 Collection with Two New Variations

Arnold & Son introduces two new variations of its emblematic DSTB 42 with true-beat seconds: a mint green dial in a red gold case and an Ascot blue dial in platinum. Each limited to 18 pieces, the models showcase textured grained dials enhanced by three openworked gold bridges supporting the true-beat seconds mechanism, counterbalanced by an off-centered white opal hours-and-minutes display.

The true-beat seconds, also known as the dead-beat seconds, were integral to the marine chronometers that John Arnold supplied to the Royal Navy. While the A&S6203 calibre beats at 4 Hz, a dedicated in-house mechanism translates this rhythm into precise one-second jumps, visible entirely on the dial side.

This architectural presentation underscores the historic importance of the complication. The bridges, crafted in solid gold to match each case, frame the seconds hand as it arcs between 9 and 12 o’clock, achieving both balance and mechanical artistry.
