Ethiopia- The Land of Origins

Embracing charming customs and harmony

Ethiopia as a country is one of the oldest nations in the world due to its very long history and an unmatched diversity of people and cultures, often being described as a ‘museum of peoples’. TravelJingles in conversation with H.E. Mr. Demeke Atnafu Ambulo, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, to know more about this country.

Tell us about three must-do things in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia’s history stretches back to before recorded time to an age when our first ancestors walked the earth. Here you can see fossils tracing the origin of humankind, including our oldest forebears. A Cultural Mosaic-Ethiopia has a vibrant living culture comprising a diverse mosaic of peoples living together in harmony. The unique century-old religious festivals, colourful, and charming customs like the coffee ceremony, as coffee is Ethiopia’s gift to the world. A land of great heights and deep places-Ethiopia boasts landscapes of stunning beauty and dramatic contrasts embracing the Simien Mountains – the Roof of Africa, Danakil Depression, the lowest and hottest place on earth, and many more. The cloud forests, such as those in the Kafa Biosphere Reserve – are the sole home of many wild coffee varieties.

Ethiopia is the birthplace of Coffee. Comment.

Coffee is Ethiopia’s gift to the world. It originated in Ethiopia in a place called Kaffa-a province in South Western Ethiopia, in the 9th Century. It derives its name from the name of the place where it originated Kaffa-Coffee. It is from Ethiopia that it first spread to Yemen and the Middle East in the 16th Century, South Asia at the end of the 17th Century and Latin American Countries in the 18th Century. Coffee is Ethiopia’s gift to the world that is why we call Ethiopia-Land of Origin including being the cradle of humanity.
