Looking at the increasing prices of petrol & diesel, what is the contribution of Volvo for a greener environment?
Volvo as a luxury car brand has been known for safety. However, sustainability is as important to us as safety. As a mobility provider, we are conscious towards our role towards a greener environment. We have an ambition to become a climate-neutral company by 2040.
We realize that tailpipe emissions account for a significant part of our carbon footprint. That is why every new Volvo car launched from 2019 onwards has an electric motor. We are also focusing climate-neutral manufacturing operations by 2025. Already today our global plants are powered by over 80 per cent climate-neutral electricity. In India, we were the first ones to introduce a Plug-in Hybrid car in the luxury segment and it has proven to be a great success.
Since you have launched XC40. Do we have any new launches in the pipeline. Tell us about the future plans of the brand?
We have been selling the most advanced luxury car product line in India. This includes the premium sedans – Volvo S60, Volvo S90 & SUVs to the likes of XC40, XC60 and XC90. Since last 2 years, we have added couple of petrol cars also in our portfolio and we are looking at launching a few more petrol cars in this year.
Moving towards our commitment to become a full electric car company by 2030, we are committed to bring the entire range of Volvo Recharge cars in India from 2022 onwards. The first one would the full electric XC40 Recharge which has already started to generate lot of customer interest already.
Which car do you like the most and why. (Besides Volvo).
Actually, once you start driving a Volvo and get used to the Scandinavian luxury offered in an extremely immersive manner, you stop liking other cars. But apart from Volvo, I really enjoy driving the convertible cars with open roof during my trips to European nations. A few of them are still sold in India.
Share about your best experience driving a Volvo car.
I have really enjoyed driving the Volvo XC40 a lot. Specially in the Delhi NCR areas. The best part of this one is the combination of driving dynamics along with the safety features that are extremely practical in our kind of traffic situations. The city safety feature (automatic braking) in tight traffic situation come in as a huge saviour to avoid any mishappening on the road.
