The Eighth Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly, held from 27–30 October at Bharat Mandapam, has become a milestone in global solar cooperation. With 124 Member and Signatory Countries participating just days ahead of COP30 in Brazil, the Assembly is shaping the future of clean energy through collective action.

On 28 October, the Hon’ble President of India, H.E. Smt. Droupadi Murmu, delivered a historic keynote—the first-ever presidential address to the ISA Assembly. Her speech reaffirmed India’s commitment to ISA’s founding vision of “One World, One Sun, One Grid,” called for inclusive solar development. “No woman, no farmer, no village, and no small island should be left behind,” she said, urging nations to link solar energy with livelihoods, gender equity, and digital access.

India’s leadership in renewable energy was spotlighted by Shri Pralhad Joshi, Minister of New and Renewable Energy and President of the ISA Assembly. He highlighted India’s achievement of 125 GW solar capacity and its early completion of renewable targets. Flagship initiatives like PM Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana and PM-KUSUM are bringing solar power to millions of homes and farms, transforming lives across rural India.

Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry, emphasized India’s global standing—third in solar and wind installations, second in solar module manufacturing—and its ambitious green hydrogen goals. He praised ISA’s role in fostering collaboration and scaling solar solutions across regions.

ISA Director General Ashish Khanna described this as a turning point for the Global South. “Renewables have surpassed fossil generation. Now is the time to move from ambition to action,” he said. ISA’s strategy focuses on aggregation, harmonizing standards, and innovation through its Global Capability Centre and STAR-C hubs.

The Assembly’s agenda centers on four strategic pillars: Catalytic Finance Hub, Global Capability Centre & Digitisation, Regional Engagement, and Technology & Policy Roadmaps. Key initiatives include the Africa Solar Facility and the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Platform, alongside innovations in floating solar, AI, OSOWOG, and solar for agriculture.

ISA will also unveil its flagship reports—Ease of Doing Solar 2025 and Solar Trends 2025—offering insights into global progress and future pathways. With India’s success as a blueprint, the Assembly is charting a bold course toward a sustainable, inclusive, and solar-powered future.
