Lucknow, August 19 -The UK Government has signed an MoU with the UP Government to implement the Chevening Scholarship Programme in the state. The MoU was signed in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron, which will provide up to 15 students of UP with fully funded one-year master’s degrees in the UK.
The scheme is called ‘Chevening Bharat Ratna Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Uttar Pradesh Rajya Sarkar Scholarships Yojana’ and will operate from 2026 to 2029, selecting five scholars in each of the three years. Costs will be split equally between the two governments, with a representative from the state sitting on the selection panel.
The High Commissioner visited Lucknow during her trip to India as part of the UK-India Vision 2035 initiative and discussed higher education and trade opportunities with the Chief Minister, following the Free Trade Agreement agreed upon in July 2025. She highlighted the new scholarship partnership as a step toward deepening UK-India ties through world-class education and global networks.
