Germany is experiencing strong momentum from the Indian outbound travel market, driven by rising travel intent, improved connectivity, and a growing preference for immersive, experience-led journeys. Over recent years, Indian travellers have steadily reinforced Germany’s appeal as a long-haul destination, with demand showing consistent growth across leisure and business segments.
Travel indicators highlight this trajectory. In October 2025 alone, Indian visitors recorded 104,066 overnight stays—16.5% higher than pre-pandemic 2019 levels—signalling sustained expansion rather than a temporary rebound. Between January and October 2025, India accounted for 775,294 overnight stays, underscoring Germany’s strong resonance with this market.
Commenting on the initiative, Romit Theophilus, Director – Marketing & Sales Office, India, GNTO, said, “Indian outbound travel is evolving rapidly, with travellers today placing greater value on depth, relevance and personal connection rather than conventional sightseeing alone. We are seeing a clear preference for journeys that are immersive, thoughtfully paced and shaped around individual interests. Germany’s strength lies in its culturally rich regions, diverse landscapes and year-round experiences, which together allow travellers to curate journeys that are distinctive, meaningful and aligned with their evolving travel expectations.”
Air connectivity remains a critical enabler. According to the GNTB Dashboard, around 296 flights currently operate between India and Germany, offering access to multiple cities and supporting flexible, multi-city itineraries. Seat capacity stands at approximately 93,447, further strengthening travel volumes. Longer stays are also evident, with Indian travellers now averaging more than nine nights, reflecting deeper exploration and extended itineraries.
Against this backdrop, the German National Tourist Office (GNTO) unveiled its 2025 Tourism Vision for India. The strategy emphasizes culture-driven travel, romantic experiences, seasonal journeys, and region-led exploration, aligning with evolving Indian preferences. Romit Theophilus, Director – Marketing & Sales Office, India, noted that travellers increasingly value depth, relevance, and personal connection over conventional sightseeing.
Germany’s cultural richness, diverse landscapes, and year-round offerings—from Cultureland Germany’s heritage to festive winter markets—position it as a distinctive destination. With robust connectivity and strong engagement, Germany is poised to deepen ties with Indian travellers and inspire journeys beyond the ordinary.
