An Insight On The Bilateral Relationship Between Morocco and India

H.E. Mr. Mohamed Maliki
Ambassador of Morocco to India

Morocco and India are strengthening their trade and investment relationship that is increasingly built on concrete results, economic complementarity and a shared vision for long-term cooperation. As two dynamic economies of the Global South, the partnership is moving beyond traditional trade, towards industrial collaboration and joint access to international markets, supported by the strategic vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who has consistently promoted economic openness, competitiveness, and South-South partnerships.

Bilateral trade between Morocco and India has grown steadily in recent years. After a record high in 2022 with USD 4 billion, it is expected to reach a new record high in 2025, given that Moroccan exports of rock-phosphate, phosphoric acid and phosphatic fertilizers (DAP and TSP) has reached approximately USD 2.6 billion. In 2025 also, Tata Advanced Systems Morocco (TASM) built a plant in Berrechid, Morocco, for the production of armoured vehicles. This project is considered as the first Indian investment project in defence industry outside India. This highlights the strategic relations between the two countries, beyond trade and exchanges..

Indeed the Kingdom offers Indian companies a highly competitive base for production and export. Located at the crossroads of Europe, Africa, and the Atlantic, Morocco is less than 14 kilometers from Europe and enjoys direct maritime access to the Americas. This strategic position is supported by state-of-the-art logistics infrastructure. Tanger Med Port, the largest port complex in Africa and the Mediterranean, handled over 10 million containers in 2024 and connects to more than 180 ports worldwide, enabling rapid access to European and American markets.

Morocco has also developed integrated industrial ecosystems in automotive, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, agribusiness, and renewable energy. Modern free zones, efficient roads and rail networks, and upcoming projects such as the port ‘Nador West Med’ further reinforce the country’s role as a regional industrial and logistics hub.

Companies operating from Morocco benefit from political stability, a skilled multilingual workforce, competitive costs, and preferential access to the European Union, the United States, and numerous African markets, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Maliki Ambassador of Morocco to India representing nearly 3 billion consumers.

Currently, there are more than 45 Indian companies operating in Morocco directly, and more than 200 operating indirectly in the Kingdom and the perspectives are promising.
