State Visit of The President Gabriel Boris Font of Chile to India April 1 – 5, 2025

Gabriel Boris Font, President of Chile since March 2022, became the youngest president in Chilean history and is currently the seventh youngest serving state leader in the world. This is President Boric’s first visit to India in his capacity as President. He will visit Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru before returning to Chile on 5 April 2025.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font began discussions on a comprehensive economic partnership to boost bilateral ties, with a focus on trade and defence.
Chile is a valued friend and partner country for India in Latin America. In the discussions, they identified several new initiatives to further strengthen India’s and Chile’s cooperation in the coming decade.

The expansion of mutual trade and investment and initiate discussions on a mutually beneficial Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement are being mutually welcomed by both countries.
Partnerships in the field of Critical Minerals has also been emphasized. Efforts will be made to establish resilient supply and value chains. There will be also a collaborate in the agriculture industry to enhance food security by leveraging each other’s strength

“Globally, India and Chile agree that all tensions and disputes should be resolved through dialogue. We are unanimous in saying that to face global challenges, reform of the United Nations Security Council and other institutions are necessary. Together we will continue to contribute to global peace and stability” Narendra Modi said in his statement.

“We welcome the consensus reached today on the cultural exchange program between the two countries. We also discussed simplification of the visa process between the two countries. We will continue to work towards increasing student exchanges between India and Chile” Narendra Modi said in his statement.

The outcome of the state visit was, A Letter of Intent on Antarctica Cooperation, India – Chile Cultural Exchange Program, MoU between National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response, (SENAPRED) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on disaster management and MoU between CODELCO and Hindustan Copper Ltd. (HCL).
