H.E. Mr. Alonso Correa Miquel Ambassador of Panama to India, shares his insights on bilateral trade between Panama and India.
When we think of trade relationships with potential, the connection between Panama and India stands out for its vast possibilities. Although geographically distant, both countries share a clear vision to open up to the world, promote innovation, and build partnerships that generate mutual growth.
Panama, with its strategic position in the heart of the Americas, is not only home to the Panama Canal, one of the most important logistical hubs on the planet, but also serves as a natural bridge between the markets of North America, South America, and the Caribbean. This advantage makes Panama an ideal platform for Indian companies to efficiently access the entire region.

India, on the other hand, with its vibrant economy, expanding tech industry, and entrepreneurial spirit, represents a rich source of products, services, talent, and innovation. The opportunities to complement our economies are clear, from technology, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and food, to infrastructure, renewable energy, and financial services.
Panama already has a strong network of free trade agreements, policies favourable to foreign investment, a dollarized economy, and a business-friendly environment. Even more importantly, there is an active and respected Indian community that has significantly contributed to the country’s economic and cultural development, creating a valuable bond of trust.
The Colon Free Zone, for example, can be an ideal entry point for Indian products to the rest of Latin America. Likewise, Panamanian companies are increasingly interested in exploring the potential of the Indian market, particularly in sectors such as agribusiness, logistics, and digital services.
In summary, more than just trade, this is about building a bilateral relationship based on trust, complementarity, and a shared vision. Panama is ready to strengthen ties with India and take this relationship to a new level. The time is now, and the opportunities are immense.
