Diplomat Interviews

Interview with the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to India

1. Tell us about the two must-do things in the Czech Republic.

There are many fascinating places in Czechia. Visitors usually start in Prague and dive in its old charming streets. The abundance of historical palaces and other sights is astonishing. However, Prague has not only a historical face but boosts of lots of modern architecture, fun places and it is a great spot for families travelling with kids, or sports loving tourists. You should have enough time to see other places listed on the UNSECO World Heritage List, such as Kutna Hora or Cesky Krumlov. Indian tourists visiting Czechia recognize many places thanks to Indian movies such as Rockstar or Jab Harry met Sejal.

2. The country has the most castles in Europe. Comment.

This is one of the many things Czechs are particularly proud of. Visiting castles with your family as well as other wonders of architecture is one thing we are taught from early childhood. Czechia is said to be home to more than hundreds of castles and chateaux that will make you feel as if you are staying in wonderland. Besides famous Gothic castles such as Karlstejn Castle there are many castles situated in the countryside such as Hluboka or Lednice, which are two neo-Gothic gems. Many Czech castles and chateaux are surrounded with breathtaking gardens or vineyards, so there´s something for everyone.

3. Beer is very famous in the country. What makes it so special? Also, tell us about the gastronomy of the country.

Beer is the most popular beverage in Czechia. It is known for its top quality and long tradition. Small as well as large breweries can be found throughout the whole country. They produce a unique Czech lager such as Pilsner Urquell and Budvar (the original Budweiser). Beer is usually drunk with small bites of sausage or cheese. Traditional Czech cuisine is famous for rich soups and sauces, bread dumplings, sausages and different types of roasted meats. However, there are many flavourful Czech vegetarian dishes, such as fried cauliflower, different types of potato pancakes, or lovely dill soup, to name a few.

4. Do you like beaches or mountains? One word

I enjoy both equally and do not want to limit myself by choosing just one.

5. Which are your three favourite holiday destinations and why. Three words
